BIO

THE JOURNEY

Skull is a multidisciplinary artist born in Laredo, TX, and raised in Nuevo Laredo, México. This binational upbringing has profoundly influenced Skull's artistic style, which blends vibrant colors, textures, and symbolism. Growing up celebrating the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) has also left an indelible mark on Skull's art. Skull is self-taught and has been active in the art scene since 2008, with a debut in the group show "Hot Hot Hot." Recent exhibitions include the group show "Technodrome," which won "Art Show of the Year" by Concept Animals in Austin, TX. Skull's work is also part of the Mexic-Arte Museum of Art's permanent collection. Notably, Skull was featured in the SXSW2022 Texas Has Something to Say showcase. As an Austin-based artist, Skull delves into the mysteries of duality, exploring the intricate balance between life and death, light and darkness, and the harmony that exists within these opposing forces. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant traditions of Mexico's Day of the Dead, as well as the raw energy of goth and punk music, Skull's figurative works reveal the beauty in anatomical aspects of human existence. Skull's artwork has garnered recognition in various publications, including the Austin Chronicle in 2018. Living and working in Austin, TX, Skull continues to push boundaries and inspire audiences with a unique blend of Mexican heritage, dark aesthetics, and unapologetic creativity.
